Kona 2012 Race Week: Wednesday

The plan for this morning was to get a short swim, bike and run session done before it got too hot.  I ran first – as with yesterday, only for 15 minutes with a few short intervals.  I jumped on the bike straight after for a 30 minute ride, again with some higher intensity work in there.  As there had been quite a bit of late night rainfall, I was wary of swimming from the pier, as there was an increased chance of getting sick before the race.  After a quick email to Brian, we changed the plan to a pool swim, which was a lot quieter than the beach, as I had a lane to myself for 20 minutes.

After some breakfast I went down to check out the expo area, as we missed the chance to go there for the opening last night.  The expo was much the same as in previous years, but it was still fun to do the rounds and see everything on show.  It was great to stop by the Compressport stand and see their Kona 2012 special edition gear.

The rest of the morning and afternoon was spent doing next to nothing, lying in bed and staying off my feet.  You’ll notice that this has been a trend of the week – I’m following coach’s orders!  Later in the afternoon we went to the Slowtwitch party, which was held at a great house a few miles south along Ali’i Drive.  Afterwards Todd and I went out for one of the classic Kona dishes – macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi – which was delicious!  It was then time for a massage ahead of tomorrow’s day off.  It felt like the day had flown by again, which is always a good sign that you’re having fun!  I’m still feeling extremely relaxed and very excited to lay it all down on Saturday.
