After a quiet night after the race, Monday was a day to celebrate Vegas style! We checked out of our hotel in Henderson and got a taxi to the strip, where we were staying at Caesar’s Palace for the night. In retrospect where we were staying made no difference, as we spent next to no time at the hotel! The main thing was that we were smack bang in the middle of town within walking distance of just about everything!
We caught up with some other Aussie triathletes at a bar in Planet Hollywood, sharing stories from the race the previous day. The drinks were flowing and before we knew it, it was 5pm and we were all more than a little jolly! Everywhere you looked there were tables and slot machines, but I managed to resist the drunken urge to throw my money away.
Later in the evening -we went out for dinner to the Cheesecake Factory (which actually sells stuff other than cake) with some friends we met the day before, which was really good fun.
Having done the ‘bar scene’ earlier in the day, we spent the evening walking along the strip taking in all the sights, as well as watching the water show outside the Bellagio. I ended up getting back to the hotel just after 4am, giving me less than two hours before I had to wake up to get the taxi to the airport for the flight to Kona. The sleep deprivation was worth it – I’d survived the night in Vegas and had a great time!
